The best placements begin long before the first interview.

Earlier this week, I had a conversation with a client that reminded me why I love what I do.

They had recently welcomed a new team member and shared how impressed everyone had been with the hire.

One question followed:
"How did you know this person was the right fit?"

The truth is, it didn't start with a CV.

Long before I spoke to candidates, I spent time understanding the organisation itself.
Not just the role.
The culture.
The leadership.
The environment.
The type of person who would genuinely thrive there.

Only then did I begin speaking with potential candidates.

After many conversations, there were a few exceptional professionals who could have been successful in the role.

What made the difference wasn't experience alone.
It was understanding who would connect most naturally with the organisation's values, ambitions and way of working.

Sometimes the strongest match isn't created by finding the most qualified person.
It's created by understanding what matters to both sides and recognising where those two stories naturally come together.

A successful placement isn't just about filling a vacancy.
It's about creating a partnership where both the organisation and the individual can grow together.

Moments like these remind me that recruitment is never just about finding talent.
It's about taking the time to truly understand people.

Have you ever seen a hiring decision succeed because of cultural fit rather than simply experience?
